New Books For 2009 Favor Johnson Neon Mesa: Wonders of the Southwest Elizabeth Osborne: The Color of Light

“The Glories of Color”

I haven’t been so excited since Johann Wolfgang von Goethe came along and questioned the validity of Newton’s ideas about light and color. That may be a slight exaggeration of my life span and love of color but the two of the newest titles coming out for Bunker Hill Publishing this fall should enchant anyone with an eye for the spectacular.

Neon Mesa: Wonders of the Southwest by Rob Atkins and Elizabeth Osborne: The Color of Light by Robert Cozzolino will appeal to many of your senses from the moment you pick them up.

The dazzling light of the Southwest, the enormous skies and stark desert imagery form the back drop to Rob Atkins’ stunning exploration of a quintessential American landscape. He captures visual gems with his camera from the ghostly quarries of old motels and roadside wrecks, of decaying signs and faded walls, and writes about the minutiae of lost Americana with affection and great style.

Goethe would have loved Elizabeth Osborne. Her paintings which will be exhibited in her retrospective show at The Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts this summer are to die for – a feast for the eye. Our luxuriously produced book should be an obligatory purchase for those lucky enough to go and see her work first hand and a consolation for those unable to make it!

Musings

Since I was two the book, ‘Twas the Night before Christmas’ by Clement Clark Moore has been a part of my fondest holiday memories. Whether I am reading it aloud to eager little ears or somebody is giving me the pleasure of listening to it, it really puts me in the mood for the season. Our new book, ‘Favor Johnson’ coming out this September is going to give readers as well as listeners the same pleasurable experiences. It is a delightful story of loving and giving that epitomizes what the holiday season should be all about. In many ways life is moving much too fast these days and we have lost track of what is really important. This story of the wonderful old Vermont farmer, Favor Johnson, told by Willem Lange and beautifully illustrated by Bert Dodson, will help us slow down and savor the true values of Christmas.
